How do I know if Mediation is for me?

You are concerned about your financial future and the financial future of your partner &  family.

You are able to communicate with your spouse independently without  fear.

You are confident making decisions based on the information you have received through research and discussions with professionals.

What are the advantages of using a lawyer/mediator?

When choosing a financial mediator, be sure you are working with a lawyer mediator. The primary advantage of using a lawyer /mediator (particularly an experienced family law mediator) is that they know and understand the legal issues that provide reference points for settlement purposes.

The parties to a mediation are not restricted by what a court may likely do. Understanding the law provides helps everyone make fully informed decisions for what's best for you and your family.

Please note , your lawyer mediator can provide legal information but not advice.

How long is the process?

No two family situations are alike.  It depends. We encourage you to take whatever time you need to create a fair and durable settlement.

The more complicated your finances, the more time it may take. There is no benefit in cutting corners when you are negotiating an agreement that has to last.

What issues are covered in financial mediation?

  • Child Support  that covers the present and anticipates the future
  • Spousal Support  and cash flow to future individual households
  • Current and future budgeting
  • Division of assets and liabilities
  • Any other relevant financial issues

Do I need a lawyer?

It depends. Once you have a draft of your separation agreement, we recommend that you consult with a lawyer. Mediators cannot give legal advice  even though they are guiding you through  the legal landscape.

Most  clients are not accompanied by lawyers, but some people feel more comfortable making decisions after receiving legal advice or guidance.

How much does it cost?

Because everyone's situation is unique, please contact Marion or Eva to discuss.
